About Me

Original Acrylic:
"Ring of Fire" - Symbolic Mountain Landscape

Every moment of a volcanic eruption is expressed here, from its start deep in the bowels of the earth to the atmospheric cataclysm as the eruption hurls spattering lava and ignimbrite flows for miles into the air.

The surface of the land lies peacefully between.

This concept explores the source of volcanic activity, and is loosely based on the series of ignimbrite eruptions known to have destroyed a volcano that lay north of Mount Tongariro on the Central North Island Plateau.

It created what is now Lake Taupo. It was probably the largest eruption in history and occurred about 200 AD.

Lake Taupo lies between the Mt Taranaki/Ruapehu/Ngauruahoe/Tongariro cluster of volcanoes and White Island in the Bay of Plenty.  This clearly-defined arc of volcanic activity is part of the great Ring of Fire that encircles the Pacific.

Painting in Acrylic on Arches Dessein 160gsm Art paper is ready mounted on backing board and matted in a biscuit color that accentuates the colors in the painting.

Painting size is 19in x 24.5in - overall size is 25in x 30.5in. Colors are richer than they appear here.
